For those seeking a destination offering peace, quiet and tranquility in a safe and secure haven, look no further than Gooderson Mtunzini Forest Lodge.
Situated near the quiet town of Mtunzini on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal, Gooderson Mtunzini Forest Lodge is just over an hours drive from Durban with direct access to the Midlands via Vryheid / Melmoth and Zululand.
Nestled in a lush sand forest location bordering an expansive, unspoilt beach this small private resort offers a host of wonders for those who delight in natural surroundings, indigenous forests and lush vegetation. Our cosy log cabins offer a rustic ‘tree house’ experience, while at the same time providing all the comforts of home at your fingertips.
Birdwatchers will be kept busy identifying the many different species endemic to the region, and those who enjoy hiking will encounter a variety of butterflies, small red duiker, vervet monkeys and the occasional bush pig whilst on the forest trails.
Take a walk to the nearby beach, which is perfect for those long evening strolls where you will perhaps discover an unusual driftwood ornament. Be sure to keep an eye out at night as you may be fortunate enough to get a close-up photo of a bushbaby in the trees surrounding your veranda.
Bring along all your fishing gear for a perfectly safe angling experience either in surf, or in the nearby estuary. Take a short trip into Richards Bay (45km) and you can book a deep-sea fishing charter for you and your family, or go on a scenic trip around the small craft harbour.
You are also welcome to bring your boats to the Resort. You will be able to utilize the slipway at the nearby Umlalazi Nature Reserve to launch into the estuary. Please note no jetski’s are allowed. Proper licensing and boat requirements are inspected.
Take a full day to take in some game viewing at the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve, about one and a half hours drive from the resort. Devote another day to visit St. Lucia and take a trip up river to view hippos, crocodiles, fish eagles and other indigenous river dwellers.
Prefer to kick back and relax onsite? Then you will enjoy the Resort’s great family facilities. Lounge around the swimming pool, take in a game of pool or table tennis with the children, or make use of our air-conditioned games room, and our lapa entertainment areas.

Directions
From Durban: Follow the N2 North highway towards Richards Bay. Approximately 140 km from Durban you will reach the Mtunzini Toll Plaza. At the toll gate, you will see a turn off to Mtunzini. Take the turn off and turn right. Follow this road (Henly Hutchinson Road) into the village and turn right into Station Road. At Siyayi Drive turn right and then first left at Valley Drive. Follow the brown signboards to Mtunzini Forest Lodge.
